How to ApplyArranging your bank account in Australia with National Australia Bank (NAB) or New Zealand with Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) is easy. There are 4 simple steps to follow: Step 1: Apply Apply online using the application form link on this page. You can do this up to a year in advance of your planned arrival date in your destination country. You'll need your email address, passport number and expiry date to apply. Please note that no address in your destination country is required to apply. Please note if you are applying for an account and you are under 18 years of age you will need to have your parents complete the parent / guardian consent form. If you are under the age of 14, we are unable to open an account for you before you arrive.
Step 2: Account Your application is reviewed and account opened in 2-5 working days. You will then receive an email communication with your account details, the name of your dedicated banker in your destination country and information on how to transfer money to the account. Accounts provided pre departure include:
Australia (issued by National Australia Bank)NAB Classic Banking Account (transaction/current account)
New Zealand (issued by Bank of New Zealand)New Migrant Account (interest bearing account). On arrival in New Zealand your banker will convert the account to the optimum account(s) that meet your needs e.g. Campus Account Full details, terms and conditions, disclosure statements, fees and charges, interest rates and privacy statements for all accounts can be found on the destinations websites or from any National Australia Bank and Bank of New Zealand branch (store).
Step 3: Transfer Your account can receive funds as soon as it is opened. However due to Anti Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism requirements you will not be able to withdraw funds from the account or transfer funds between accounts until you have been formally identified by your banker in your destination country.
Step 4: Arrive Two weeks prior to your planned arrival date in your destination country you should contact your dedicated banker for an appointment so that you can be formally identified and be given your bank (debit) cards. This is as simple as showing your passport to your dedicated banker within six weeks of arriving in your destination country. N.B. New Zealand identity requirements have changed from February 2013. From this date, you will be required to provide proof of your address in New Zealand to your banker when you are formally identified in New Zealand. |
